The Education Consult Service (ECS) has been developed by CORD to assist its residency program membership in navigating the complexities of emergency medicine residency program administration. This subcommittee is intended to connect residency program members with expert consultants in a variety of residency-related content areas searchable database of previous consultation transactions, in an effort to relay best practices and expert-recommended solutions to common residency program issues (database to be developed over time).
All consultation will be completed remotely, and free of charge to the fellow CORD affiliate. The residency program requesting the consult may request an in-person consultation. In those instances, it will be up to the Requesting Program to communicate with the Consult Advisor, to negotiate the terms of the consultation and the manner in which travel expenses will be paid. CORD does not pay for any travel associated with consultation.
We have divided anticipated consult questions into request types* for easier connection to a Consult Advisor, and for improved searchability of recommendations.
Request Types
- Program Design and Management (i.e., financial considerations for residency management, improving interprofessional education, designing clinical rotations, designing programs to accommodate program size, developing affiliations)
- Leadership Skills (i.e.organizational management, leading teams, change management)
- Managing Accreditation (i.e., designing outcome assessment, designing program evaluation, assistance with ACGME compliance, assistance with LCME compliance, program data management, affiliation agreements, self-assessment/PEC/APE)
- Faculty Skills Development (i.e., improvement of faculty assessment of learners, fundamental teaching skills, fundamental scholarship skills, fundamental writing skills, career development/promotion/tenure, connecting with educators from other disciplines)
- Curriculum (i.e., implementing curricular innovations, designing assessments, curriculum mapping, help with curricular structure/organization, developing curricular content, basics: lesson planning, using objectives)
- Teaching Methods (i.e., incorporating interactive methods into large group instruction, bedside teaching, best practices for teaching in a busy clinical environment, facilitating small group instruction, flipping the classroom, designing simulation, designing cases for instruction, curricular adjustments based on ITE results)
- Resident Interface (i.e. resident feedback, faculty feedback, resident data management, 360 degree evaluations)
- Remediation and Pre-remediation (i.e. helping the struggling learner, individual instructional adjustments based on ITE results, managing the process of resident exit from a program)
