Residency Administration Fellowship Information

The CORD Residency Administration Fellowship (RAF) is a year-long integrated fellowship experience for those passionate about graduate medical education (GME) leadership and administration. This course combines in-person and asynchronous experiences for faculty to learn more about the nuts and bolts of program leadership and better prepare the next generation of medical educators for success in maintaining high quality residency programs.   • Navigating Accreditation Processes with the ACGME
  • Change Management
  • Team Leadership

OVERALL Goal: To provide in-depth education on the administrative, legal, and accreditation aspects of running an Emergency Medicine residency program. 

OVERALL Objectives:

  1. Define the roles and responsibilities of Assistant Program Director and Program Director.
  2. Recognize the ACGME EM specialty-specific program requirements.
  3. Describe the financial support structure for GME finance.
  4. Demonstrate effective and compliant approaches to deal with HR challenges.
  5. Describe how to approach crises in residency management.
  6. Develop a plan for personal career advancement.
  7. Demonstrate leadership and management skills necessary to lead a residency program

Any current CORD member may apply, whether you currently are in residency leadership or seeking to make that transition.  

The course consists of the following in-person sessions:

  • CORD 2025 Academic Assembly – Pre-Day, March 1, 2025
  • ACEP 2025 – Pre-Day, Septmeber 7, 2025
  • CORD 2026 Academic Assembly - March 25, 2026

In-person attendance for these dates is expected of all RAF fellows, including participating in the NPL track at CORD AA on March 1, 2025, in Seattle, WA and RAF-only workshops at ACEP Scientific Assembly on September 7, 2025, in Salt Lake City, UT and at CORD on March 25, 2026, in Orlando, FL.

Asynchronous discussions on various topics will occur through the web-based platform, Slack, between these meetings and participants, are expected to participate. There is a possibility of an occasional live virtual session to be scheduled at a time that works best for the majority of participants.

A program fee of $1,500 will be collected at the time of application and will be refunded to anyone not selected for the program. Applicants must submit a current CV, a Statement of Interest, and a Letter of Support from their current chair, chief, or program director.
